A mountain's advice.
The text is presented as written. Line breaks are preserved from the archived source.
"Great mountain wise and old,
High and mighty dost thou stand.
Many ages hast thou seen,
Advice I crave from thee.
Thou hast witnessed both joy and grief,
And other cares that burden men.
Many have said, thou art wise,
Hence I ask for thy advice.
Life I wish to know about,
How to sail its wild streams.
Defeat I wish to learn about, and,
Ways how I may conquer it."
"Son of Man,pay heed to me; for,
Thou hast asked advice of me.
Lead a life of contentment; for,
Then shalt thou escape sorrow,
Aim for lofty heights, but,
Grieve not if thou misseth thy mark.
Forge ahead on and on; lend not thy ear,
To passers by, for they know thee not.
Take all advice that is well meant,
And tread all paths of good.
Pitfalls aplenty thou shalt face,
And barriers of height no mean.
Cross the pits and break the walls,
There is nothing that will; thy will,
A strong will can accomplish not, for,
none can bar the way of a mighty will.
Life's defeats are no mean few.
Take all that comes, with joy.
Give not space for evil in thee.
Treat thy comrades well.
Hate not thine enemy, but show him love,
Grieve not at the hour of defeat,
For victories galore lie before thee.
Son of Man, remember this forever-
Talent aplenty is hid in thee.
You lack not the resources.
Create a spark and blaze a trail,
Think not that thou canst shine; for,
'All that is gold does not glitter,
Nor all that wander are lost,
The old that is strong shall never wither,
Deep roots are not reached by frost.
From the ashes shall a fire blaze anew,
From the shadows alone can light spring,
Barriers will, with renewed will, be broken,
For then will you succeed in anything.'
Farewell and live well son of man
Thou hast a long life ahead of thee.
Keep forever my advice in thy mind,
For then will thou lead a life of joy."
