Screaming gulls wheeled overhead,
Canopied under a cloudless sky.
Lively indeed was the sunlight’s dance,
Upon the sea beyond the sands.
Towering waves, on a cliff face, crashed,
Spewing foam and spray from the rocks.
Deep into a gully roared the tide,
As the waters raged on that sunlit noon.
T’was a breathtaking sight I watched,
Sitting on the rocks on the beach.
Enthralled I was by the song of the sea,
Booming and raging with a mighty voice.
The tide fell as eve set in,
Time had come for the sun to set.
The tide fell as eve set in,
Time it was, for the sea to rest.
The sun sank low in the sky,
As I settled on the lower rocks.
Gently lapped, the waves at my feet,
As crabs scuttled home in the sand.
Soft and calm was the song now,
The sea sang in a soft murmur.
Mingled in it were the sea birds’ calls,
Heading home to nest on the cliff.
A lone eagle skimmed o’er the waters,
Looking for a late meal of fish.
The sun set into the sea; set,
Set the waters aflame, red and gold.
Orange turned red and blue turned black,
As the sun sank into the murmuring sea.
The sun vanished and went to sleep,
Went to sleep with the waters’ lullaby.
The stars and the moon shone clear and bright,
The sea burst into a new song.
A lively song, with the turning tide
A fitting song to welcome the night.
Homeward bound, stepped I on the sand,
As I turned my back to the sea,
A pearly shell, at my feet, cast the sea.
The conch glittered in the moonlit night.
Amazed I set it to my lips, and………
The thunderous note of the conch echoed,
Waking the birds on the shadowed cliff.
Booming out the song of the sea.
For this gift, in my heart, I thanked the sea,
Turning and journeying back home.
The conch on my bedside desk I set,
Ever since the song of the sea lulls me to sleep...
