A location-specific astronomy almanac for planning a year of observing and astrophotography, with annual visibility guides, monthly field notes and downloadable data.
Nabhastala began with a practical problem: astronomical data is plentiful, but working out what is genuinely useful from a particular horizon still takes time. I wanted a reference that begins with the observing location and turns the year ahead into something that can actually be planned.
Each edition is built for a specific horizon. The 2026 almanacs currently cover South East Queensland, Southern Tasmania and the Malabar Coast, with annual overviews and a separate guide for every month.
The guides bring together Galactic Centre windows, planetary visibility, eclipses, comets, meteor showers, minor planets, and the changing positions of Jupiter’s and Saturn’s major moons. The underlying tables remain available as downloadable data, alongside a printable field edition.
It is intended for the point before a session begins: choosing the season, finding the useful nights, and arriving outside with a better idea of what the sky will offer.
