ASSESSMENT LESSON 9

Final Build, Final Evidence and Booklet Submission Prep πŸ› οΈ

Today is the final class lesson for building, refining and getting your Engineering Portfolio booklet ready for submission.

By the end of today, your booklet should be ready to submit. Tuesday is for testing only, not general booklet catch-up.

Today’s goal

Finish final rover changes, collect any missing evidence that can be collected today, and complete the booklet pages needed for submission.

Entry requirement update

You now need at least 7 completed engineering entries, not 8. Do not create a fake entry for the missed lesson.

Non-negotiable today

Do not leave general writing, sketches or reflection work for Tuesday. Tuesday is purely for testing. Today is your final opportunity to make the booklet submission-ready.

1. First priority: final build and refinement

Start with the rover. Make only the changes that are needed for the final design to work reliably enough for testing.

Movement
Check forward, backward and turning behaviour.
Object mechanism
Check collect, push, lift, carry and transport.
Durability
Check weak joins, loose parts and bending points.
Component protection
Check brain, battery, motors, sensors and cables.
Build rule: small fixes are useful. Major rebuilds are risky unless a major part of the rover does not work.

2. Second priority: missing evidence and photos

If you can collect real evidence today, record it. If a test still cannot be completed today, mark it clearly for Tuesday testing.

Evidence item What to do today
Pages 15-17: Tests already started Finish recording straight-line movement, turning and object interaction if the evidence is real. Object interaction must cover collect, push, lift, carry and transport.
Pages 18-20: Tests that still need rover access Complete reliability, durability and sensor/control if you can genuinely test them today. If not, write Needs to be tested on Tuesday.
Final rover photos Take clear front, side and top/rear photos if the rover is final enough. These will support QLearn upload and final evidence.
Evidence notes Write a short note next to any missing evidence so it is obvious what must be tested on Tuesday.

3. Third priority: finish the booklet pages

Your home catch-up should already have finished most writing and sketching. Today, finish the pages that depend on the final rover.

Starter Pack page Minimum work for today
Page 4: Engineering entry tracker Check that you have at least 7 completed engineering entries. If you are missing one of your 7 entries, speak to Mr Bhattaram before using lesson time on it.
Page 22: High-quality sketch - final design Draw the final rover design clearly. Label drivetrain, object mechanism, brain, battery, motors, cables, sensors and protected parts. Show what changed from the original design.
Page 23: Final design summary Write the detailed paragraph explaining how your final rover meets the project requirements.
Page 24: Final evaluation - prescribed criteria Complete as much as possible using real evidence from testing. If a test still needs Tuesday evidence, write that clearly.
Page 25: Final evaluation - self-determined criteria Complete as much as possible using evidence. Your final judgement should explain what worked, the main limitation and what you would improve next.
Page 26: Individual contribution reflection Check that this is complete and specific to your own contribution. Do not copy your partner.
Page 27: Final submission checklist Use this checklist before handing in. Remember the entry requirement is now 7 completed entries, not 8.

4. Final design summary reminder

This paragraph explains how your final rover meets the requirements. It is not a story about how hard the project was.

Your paragraph should refer to:
movement
object interaction
drivetrain
object mechanism
durability
component protection
testing and improvements
rover-inspired features

5. Submission readiness check

Before the end of today, check the whole booklet.

☐ Pages 1, 4-14, 21 and 26 are complete.
☐ Page 22 final design sketch is complete or almost complete.
☐ Page 23 final design summary is complete or almost complete.
☐ Pages 24-25 use real test evidence or clearly say what still needs Tuesday testing.
☐ Page 27 checklist has been used honestly.
☐ No evidence or results have been invented.
Extension ideas if your booklet is already ready

Choose an extension that strengthens evidence. Do not start a major rebuild unless it is genuinely needed.

  • Add clearer labels to your final design sketch.
  • Create a before/after mini-sketch showing the biggest design change.
  • Prepare a short Tuesday testing list: test still needed, evidence needed, page number.
  • Repeat a small check if time allows and record the real result.

If you still need a 7th engineering entry

Do not write an extra entry unless you actually need it to reach the minimum of 7. If you do need one, speak to Mr Bhattaram first.

A useful entry must describe real work from today: what you built or fixed, what evidence you collected, what changed, what the result was, and what still needs to be tested on Tuesday.

Authenticity reminder

Your final summary, test records and evaluation must match your real rover and real testing. Do not invent results or describe work that did not happen.
